Plumbing in Sunnyland, IL means plumbing on the western edge of Washington in Tazewell County, along Washington Road (Illinois Route 8), about 4 miles and 10 minutes from our base on Wilshire Drive. Sunnyland is a neighborhood name, not a town with its own government, so the first thing to settle on a call is which utility serves your address.

What Sunnyland Is, and Where It Sits on Route 8

Sunnyland is the name for the stretch of Washington Road, also Illinois Route 8, on the west side of Washington, between the city's center and East Peoria. Wikipedia lists it as an unincorporated community in Washington Township. Its mail goes to ZIP 61571, which is Washington's.

The landmark is Sunnyland Plaza, at Washington Road and Summit Drive. It opened in 1971, got the name Washington Plaza around 2014, and the name most residents still use is Sunnyland. WCBU reports the center is inside the City of Washington, and the Washington District Library opened a branch there in 2002.

Houses, Shops and Restaurants on One Stretch of Washington Road

There is no separate census count for Sunnyland, so we do not claim an average home age for it. The shopping center dates to the early 1970s, and Washington as a whole has a median build year of 1978. The practical move is to ask when your house was built and whether anyone has replaced the sewer or supply since.

Businesses change the picture. As of recent reports, the plaza alone holds a pizza restaurant, a childcare center, a movie theater and a dollar store, and each one loads drains in its own way. Kitchens send grease down the line, and a childcare center flushes toilets all day. The city agreed in 2026 to add water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure at the plaza. That is work on the public side, and the pipes inside each building stay the owner's concern.

Terrain and weather set the rest of the risk. Route 8 falls from about 758 feet at Washington to about 502 at East Peoria, so storm water runs west past these lots. The cold season runs from about December 1 to March 1, which is when supply lines along outside walls are most exposed.

Plumbing Calls From Sunnyland and the Washington Road Corridor

Four Miles Out: One of the Shortest Drives We Make

We leave Wilshire Drive and take Washington Road, which is Business US 24, toward Sunnyland. WCBU calls it a busy east-west commercial corridor, so afternoon traffic is the main variable. We would rather tell you that when you call than promise a time the road will not allow.

Because the distance is short, the first call is where most of the useful work happens. Tell us whether the problem is one fixture or the whole house, whether it is a house or a business, and whether you have a basement or slab. The cause usually starts to show in those three answers.

City Rates, Permits and the Tornado Side of Town

If your address is on Washington city utilities, the city's published residential rates are $3.28 per 1,000 gallons for water and $6.01 per 1,000 gallons for sewer, so check the current figures. Water that leaks and then goes down a drain is billed at both. Our hidden leak guide walks through the checks.

Plumbing permits in Washington run six months and are renewable, contractors register with the city, and rough-in plumbing must pass inspection before walls are closed. The city's inspection line is (309) 444-1122, weekdays 8 to 5. Confirm with the city whether your address is inside its limits and what a job needs. A proposed, unsigned ordinance would limit sump and perimeter tile discharge into sanitary sewers, so check its status with the city.

The 2013 tornado entered Washington from the southwest, and many rebuilt homes date from 2014 on. Route 8 continues to East Peoria, and we also cover the rest of Tazewell County.

Plumbing Questions in Sunnyland

Is Sunnyland part of Washington or East Peoria?
Mostly Washington. Its mail goes to Washington ZIP 61571, and its best-known landmark, the Sunnyland Plaza shopping center, is inside the City of Washington, per WCBU. Wikipedia calls the wider area an unincorporated community in Washington Township. Your water and sewer bill is the surest answer to which jurisdiction covers your address.
Will a leak raise my sewer charge as well as my water bill?
Where the leaking water also goes down a drain, yes. The City of Washington's published rates, as we have them, are $3.28 per 1,000 gallons for water and $6.01 per 1,000 gallons for sewer, so that water is billed twice. Check the current rates with the city. A running toilet is the usual cause, and a dye tablet in the tank finds it.
Do you work on the shops and restaurants along Washington Road?
Yes, commercial drain work is part of what we do, and the plaza at Washington Road and Summit Drive shows the range. Restaurant kitchens send grease into the drain, and a childcare center or theater puts heavy use on toilets. Tell us the business type and we will plan for it, from scheduled cleaning to a one-time clog.
Is this the same Sunnyland that is near Joliet?
No. A different Sunnyland, a census-designated place of 822 people in Will County, sits near Joliet, far to the northeast. We are talking about the area along Route 8 in Tazewell County, between East Peoria and downtown Washington. If a search sent you to the wrong one, you are in the right place now.
How close is Sunnyland to your base, and what do you do first?
It is about 4 miles and 10 minutes, mostly along Washington Road, which is a busy commercial corridor. Call (209) 563-1400 and tell us what is happening. We start with the closest shutoff or cleanout, find the cause, then give you a clear, upfront quote before any repair begins.
