Plumbing in El Paso, IL means a real drive from our base at 309 Wilshire Dr in Washington: about 25 miles and 35 minutes, mostly on US 24. Call first, because we have to tell you whether and when we can get there, and we do not promise emergency response this far out. Sewer cleaning, camera inspection and repairs that can be scheduled fit the distance best.
El Paso Plumbing in Rail-Junction Homes From Before 1940
El Paso grew where the Illinois Central and the Toledo, Peoria and Western railroads met, and much of its housing is that old. About 386 of 1,134 homes, roughly one in three, went up in 1939 or earlier, and the median home dates to 1957 (Census ACS, 2020 to 2024). Houses of that age often have clay tile or cast iron sewer lines, and roots find the joints.
The 129 homes built from 2000 to 2009 are a different story, with plastic pipe and fewer root problems. One street can hold both kinds.

High Ground, Seven Lift Stations and the Sump Rule
The town sits on high ground that drains north to the East Branch of Panther Creek and south toward Wolf Creek. The city installed its sewer in 1969, and gravity mains carry wastewater to one of seven pumping stations around town. A house from the 1920s may therefore have a lateral far younger than its walls, or an old pipe tied in at the hookup. A camera run settles which, because the build year alone does not.
The same system sets a firm rule for basements. The city says discharging a sump pump into the sanitary sewer is illegal, so the water has to land on the ground surface or go into a storm drainage tile. If your pump empties into a floor drain or laundry line, plan on rerouting it.
US 24, I-39 and the 35-Minute Drive
We leave 309 Wilshire Dr and run east on US 24 through Eureka. El Paso sits at the I-39 interchange, Exit 14, about 25 miles out, and Illinois 251 runs through the center on the old US 51 line. It is a trip we plan around.
This is how a call from El Paso goes:
- You call first. Give us the address and what the drains are doing.
- We answer yes, later or no. We say whether we can come and on which day.
- Planned work gets a booked day.
- The quote comes first, clear and upfront, before anyone picks up a tool.
If sewage or water is flooding the house, close the main shutoff valve and call us, but do not wait on us alone. Ask a plumber nearer to El Paso as well.

Work That Suits the Drive

City Water, a Lagoon and Who Owns the Pipe
El Paso's utilities department supplies drinking water from a city-run treatment facility and treats wastewater in a lagoon system (City of El Paso). The main in the street is the city's, and the pipe from your house to it is normally yours. Ask the utilities office at 301 W. Front St. where responsibility changes before you pay for any digging.
The city's 2019 water report describes five wells in a confined aquifer about 110 feet down, and the lagoon plant lies about a mile and a half northeast of town, where wastewater spends roughly 45 days in three aerated stages and a sand filter. The office is open Monday through Saturday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
A bill that jumps usually means water is leaving through something you cannot hear. The city's billing page puts a leaky toilet at up to 2,000 gallons a day, the same volume its minimum bill covers. Lift the tank lid and look for water moving before you assume the worst.
State law requires a plumbing license for repair work, so ask whoever quotes you for the number and look it up on the IDPH lookup. Closer to our base, see Woodford County and Eureka.

“Monte and Hunter came out on a Sunday (morning no less!) to help us with a mess from a backed up sewer. Lots of roots! They used two different sized cutters with a monster snake and cleaned it out all the way to the city sewer. We'd had another "sewer service" a few weeks ago and the experience was night and day different. I definitely recommend them.”
“Gary at Professional Sewer & Drain Services successfully bailed me out of a backed up sewer multiple times. Great guy and reasonable rates - very trustworthy!”
“Just a superb experience in quality and customer service and price. Called these guys at 5:30p and they were here by 6:00p and Monte did his work in the dark by flashlight! Not only did he do a fantastic job he also educated us on how to prevent these problems from becoming a much bigger and more expensive issue. I would recommend this company to anyone, they are committed to doing a professional job, ensuring it is done right and with very affordable prices.”
